We all want sparkling blue pool water, but when the central Florida heat kicks in suddenly you might find yourself facing an unexpected algae problem. That’s because algae spores are present in soil and in the air, and they can quickly become a major problem when they land in your pool through usually wind and or rain. With the longer days and warmer temperature or out of balance water will add to algae growth. Here are 4 steps to prevent algae growth in your pool.

Step One keep your pool clean. even if your pool looks clean make sure to brush seams or the tiles because germs and dirt can start the algae growth.

Step Two Keep your pool water moving run your pump 6 to 8 hours a day in the cooler month and 8 to 10 hours in the warmer months and make sure your filter system is clean and turn on automatic cleaners to help stir things up too.

Step Three check and balance your pool water. Always pay attention to pH and chlorine as a high pH reading plus low chlorine sets the stage for algae growth.

Step Four fix problems before they become a bigger one. If you have rough area in your pool you need to smooth it out by either sanding or resurfacing to keep material from building up.
